Skating away on the thin ice of a new day

Miranda's first time on skates! We had a great holiday Friday with friends (that's Ailsa in the background), going swimming and skating at the recreation complex in West Vancouver, punctuated by a fabulous sushi luncheon (one of the food groups I missed the most during pregnancy, along with booze of course--but I resisted the urge to have a beer on our sports day). Ailsa's mom, Debbie, took this great action photo--note the wonderfully blurry feet! Miranda showed improvement even in the hour we were there, and is eager to try ice skating again soon; less than eager to try icy raw fish at the Japanese restaurant.

While the cat's away...

With Miranda back into her school routine, Aurora (pictured here before a recent and crucial first haircut) rules the roost at home, at least between 8AM and 3PM! This week's big achievement is getting the "6-month" round of vaccinations (a little late)--nice to know there's no risk it causes autism, LOL. But she does have a crazed look in her eye, doesn't she???

I've got the remote

Jon took this photo of Aurora at his place, heralding her new year's resolution to take control! She certainly has a commanding presence, at 6.5 months, and has started to say "dada" and "mmmm" (not apparently in reference to anyone or anything specific); her latest, repeated pronouncement (and I'm sure she'll keep repeating it until we finally understand), is "dig-a-dig-dig"... Dig?
