Michael William Blenkhorn died suddenly but peacefully at home in Vancouver on January 26, 2009, at age 69. Predeceased by his sister, Mary Jane Decarie (d. 1998). Brother of David Blenkhorn. Dear father of Deborah Blenkhorn; esteemed father-in-law of Steve Forster; beloved grandfather of Miranda Louise Forster; proud uncle of Christina and Catherine Decarie and fond great-uncle of Evi and Mei Mei Milanovic. A tireless volunteer worker since the early 1990s with the hungry and homeless in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, Mike was a true philanthropist who earned the affection and respect of all whose lives he touched. From his early life in Sackville, New Brunswick, through his years working and living in Kingston, Ontario, to his latest and best years in Vancouver and Roberts Creek, BC, he retained a profound sense of humility and quiet grace, and served as an inspiration and mentor to countless friends in all walks of life. A memorial service will be held on February 15, 4 pm, at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, 1805 Larch St., Vancouver. There will also be “A Time of Remembering” on February 12, 4pm, at The Listening Post, 382 Main St., Vancouver, with reception to follow. Donations gratefully accepted for the Jackson Avenue Housing Co-op (with “for community kitchen” in the memo line), 248 Jackson Ave., Vancouver, BC, V6A 3B3.

Gingerbread Girls
Miranda celebrated the impending new year (a snowy blowy one that's since turned to rain and melting slush) cozily indoors by decorating gingerbread cookies with her friends, Lenya and Ellie.
