Cattleya Blooming [sic]

When I saw the file "cattleyablooming.jpg" on my desktop, I thought, "Drat that Steve--he's been looking at naughty pictures on my laptop again!" Curiosity got the better of me, though, and imagine my surprise--and relief--when I saw this lovely photo of our latest orchid (presumably a cattleya orchid, and not some foxy Russian chick) in bloom. Come to think of it though, orchids really are a sexy flower!

How does your garden grow?

Steve has done a fabulous job, as always, with the flora. Our entire garden continues to look lush, but if this weather keeps up (weeks upon weeks of sunny days) we'll soon be on watering restrictions!

Sis-in-law on deck

Linda Forster spent a week's vacation with us after a conference she attended in Victoria. The day we took her sailing was a real adventure: our motor quit in the middle of nowhere (and no wind) and we had to radio the coast guard for help. We ended up being rescued by a charming (if taciturn) fisherman named Mike, who hoped to have better luck catching something, having done his good deed for the day. Jon took this photo of us ladies on the high seas (Steve was below in the engine room, trying to make peace with the fuel filter)!
