Beanstalk beauties!

Here are the beans from our garden, at last--believe me, they were fabulous... wok-seared with matchstick carrots, garlic, ginger, and black bean sauce (with just enough chili peppers to add a little zip!) But here they are just basking in the sun, unaware of their future fate! I'm sure there's a moral lesson in there for us all, but I'm not sure I want to pursue it...

Agassiz Fair

We went to Agassiz on the weekend to visit Nanny Lorna (and her friend John) and to attend the Agassiz Fall Fair. Miranda loved all the rides (some solo, some with Steve) and is still talking about "riding a motorbike," an experience which she describes as "unbelievable!" We also enjoyed the agricultural exhibits (cows, rabits, sheep and goats) and of course the food (corn dogs and cotton candy--all that stuff that makes kids go "mmmmm"... and adults go "ugh!")

Batten down the hatches!

Guess who's been racing to complete his siding project on the workshop before the Fall rains begin? We've been lucky to have several fine days, and Jon Bell has been over many times to help Steve finish putting up the new cedar! Needless to say, now the little old outbuilding (or, as our neighbour Claire says, the "man cave") looks better than our house. Maybe we'll move into the shed!

Your morning smile

Steve took this photo as one of a series of waking-up portraits this week, so I'm posting it in response to requests from friends and relatives for a recent pic of the divine Miss M. I think I am finally starting to see a resemblance to myself in this little charmer--and I'm not just saying that because she looks so darn cute! (OK, maybe I am...)
